How does the solar calculator work?
The calculator first estimates your annual consumption from household size, air conditioners, pool and other loads, or you enter the figure straight from your electricity bill. From that it derives a sensible system size in kWp and, if you want, a storage size in kWh. As a planning value it uses 1,700 kWh per kWp per year for a South-East-West roof, adjusted for orientation and shading. Costs run 1,100 to 1,500 EUR per kWp for modules and mounting, plus 600 to 800 EUR per kWh for storage.
When does solar pay off on Mallorca?
With plenty of sun and rising electricity prices, a well-sized system usually pays back in 6 to 9 years. Self-consumption is the key: without storage you use around 30 percent of your production yourself, with storage about 65 percent. The rest is fed into the grid and paid via the compensacion. The calculator always shows annual savings and payback as a range, because quotes vary by installer and location.
What subsidies are available?
Regional grants through IDAE and CAIB programmes can cover part of the investment, but the pots are often closed. Check the current status before you count on them. Tax residents can additionally claim an IRPF deduction via their tax return. Many municipalities also cut the IBI property tax for several years and reduce the ICIO construction tax. These benefits depend on your Ayuntamiento and are deliberately not included in the cost range.
