Controls have intensified (as of July 2026)

The Guardia Civil has been stopping vehicles with foreign plates far more frequently. Residents driving permanently with German plates risk fines of 50 to 150 percent of the tax due - and in some cases vehicle seizure. Selling is often the best solution.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it difficult to sell a German-plated car on Mallorca?

The buyer has to re-register the vehicle to Spanish plates, which is time-consuming, expensive and complex. Many buyers avoid this - through us you reach those who can handle it or are willing to.

Can I sell my car before the re-registration deadline expires?

Yes. If you have registered your residence on Mallorca, the re-registration deadline is 30 days. Selling the vehicle within this period is perfectly legal and a practical way out.

Which photos should I upload?

Exterior shots from all four sides, interior (driver seat, rear seat), dashboard, engine bay, and any notable features or defects. The more detail, the faster a buyer is found.

What happens after I submit?

You will receive a confirmation email. We review your listing and forward it to suitable buyers. If there is concrete interest, we will contact you directly - usually within 1-2 working days.

Is there a fee?

Submitting is free. If a sale takes place, we may agree on a small brokerage commission - but we will discuss this with you transparently in advance.

Selling a German-plated car on Mallorca - what you need to know

Many Germans who move to Mallorca bring their car with a German licence plate. In theory, re-registration to Spanish plates is required within 30 days of registering residence. In practice, the process takes 4 to 6 months or more due to backlogs at the ITV, the DGT and the Gestoría.

Anyone caught driving with foreign plates during this time risks substantial fines and, in the worst case, vehicle seizure. For many Mallorca residents, selling the German car is the most pragmatic solution - especially if a local used car is available at a lower cost.

Through our form you reach buyers on the island directly: dealers who purchase EU vehicles and handle re-registration themselves, as well as private buyers who do not shy away from the process. Submitting your listing is free.
