Why is it difficult to sell a foreign-plated car on Mallorca?

Can I sell my car before the re-registration deadline expires?
Yes. If you have registered your residence on Mallorca, the re-registration deadline is 30 days. Selling the vehicle within this period is perfectly legal and a practical way out.

What is my car still worth on Mallorca?
Honestly: foreign plates and a missing valid inspection push the price down, because the buyer has to handle the re-registration. In return, you as the seller save the entire re-registration effort. What is realistic depends on model, condition and mileage, concrete buyers will quote you a price.
Do I need to deregister the car in my home country before selling?
Not necessarily before the sale. If you sell to a dealer or someone who re-registers the vehicle, deregistration in your home country can also happen afterwards. What matters is documenting the sale cleanly so you are no longer liable for tax and insurance.

Many new residents move to Mallorca and bring their car on foreign plates. In theory, re-registration to Spanish plates is required within 30 days of registering residence. In practice, the process takes 4 to 6 months or more due to backlogs at the ITV, the DGT and the Gestoría.
