Internet in Mallorca 2026: Fibre, Providers and Prices

Home internet in Mallorca means fibre (fibra) in Palma and the larger towns. Movistar, Vodafone and Orange charge around 20 EUR a month in the first year and 30 EUR after that, Digi 25 EUR, or 10 EUR at the few addresses on its own network. On a finca without fibre, a 4G/5G router, fixed wireless (WiMAX) or Starlink are the alternatives.

Fibre on Mallorca - fast internet for your home
Spain is among the European countries with the best fibre coverage. Around Palma and in the larger towns on the island, several providers offer fibre connections (fibra óptica), and even the entry plans deliver 300 to 600 Mbit/s. That is often faster and cheaper than comparable connections in much of Europe.
How the providers differ:
- Movistar - Spain's largest provider. Fibre with no minimum term, bundles with TV and mobile cost more.
- Vodafone España - even the entry plan has 600 Mbit/s. You commit for 12 months, and if you cancel earlier you pay a pro-rata share of the installation (up to 314 EUR).
- Orange - entry plan with 300 Mbit/s. Installation is only free if you stay for 12 months, otherwise Orange charges 242 EUR.
- Digi - its own fibre network (Fibra Smart), with 500 Mbit/s for 10 EUR a month, so far reaches only a few addresses on Mallorca, mostly in Palma. The coverage check (consultar cobertura) on digimobil.es shows whether yours is one of them. Everywhere else Digi costs 25 EUR for 300 Mbit/s. The minimum term is 3 months.
- Yoigo, MásMóvil, Lowi and other second brands - they belong to the big network operators and often run promotional prices. Comparing is worth it.
To sign a contract, providers ask for your ID and usually your NIE number, plus a bank account for the monthly direct debit. Many providers ask for a Spanish account. If your account is in another EU country, the SEPA Regulation says they should not refuse it, and the European Commission calls this IBAN discrimination. That protection does not cover accounts outside the EU and EEA, for example in the UK or the US. In practice, a Spanish bank account is still the quickest route. Movistar and Vodafone advertise installation within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the address it can take longer.
Tip: check availability first
Before you sign a rental contract or buy a finca, check which line reaches the address. The official broadband map of the Spanish digital ministry shows which fibre and mobile networks are available once you enter the address. The binding answer, though, comes from the availability check (consultar cobertura) on the provider's website. In the countryside or in older fincas there is sometimes only DSL or mobile as an alternative.
Mobile, prepaid and mobile data
The mobile network on Mallorca is very well developed overall. 4G is available island-wide and 5G is spreading quickly in and around Palma. The big network operators are Movistar, Vodafone and MasOrange (with Orange, Yoigo and Simyo). Digi is building its own network and also uses Movistar's. Low-cost brands such as Simyo, Lowi or Pepephone run on these networks.
If you do not have a fixed address yet or want to stay flexible, a prepaid SIM is the easiest way to start. Since 2007 every Spanish prepaid card has to be registered with an ID document when you buy it (Ley 25/2007). Your passport or national ID card is enough, you do not need an NIE.
Good options to start with (as of September 2026):
- Digi - prepaid packages from 3 EUR a month, or unlimited data for 10 EUR a month on a contract with no minimum term
- Movistar Prepago Plus - 60 GB for 10 EUR, valid for 28 days
- Orange Prepago 10 - 60 GB for 10 EUR, valid for 28 days
- Vodafone Prepago S - 90 GB for 10 EUR, valid for 28 days

Watch out: roaming is not a permanent solution
A SIM card from another EU or EEA country works on Mallorca at home prices thanks to EU roaming, but the rules are meant for travel. If over four months you spend more time and use more data abroad than at home, your provider can ask you to explain and may then add a surcharge. SIM cards from the UK, the US, Switzerland and most other countries outside the EU and EEA are not covered: your provider sets the roaming price. For long stays a Spanish plan is the way to go.
WiFi on Mallorca - public and on the go
You will find public WiFi on Mallorca in most cafés, restaurants, and shopping centers. The city of Palma also offers free WiFi in a few public squares. The quality varies a lot, though. For fast and reliable internet on the go you are better served with a good mobile plan.
Anyone who regularly uses public WiFi should consider a VPN service. Open networks are a popular target for data theft. A VPN encrypts your connection and protects your personal data, whether you are working in a café or browsing on the beach.
For remote workers and digital nomads, the coworking spaces in Palma offer stable high-speed internet in a professional setting. Most have fibre connections and backup lines.
Internet in the countryside and in fincas
While coverage in and around Palma is excellent, the picture in the countryside is sometimes different. Remote fincas often have no fibre and sometimes not even DSL. Here are the main alternatives:
- 4G/5G routers - Vodafone offers internet via a 5G router for 20 EUR a month in the first year and 30 EUR after that, with a 12-month minimum term. Movistar and Orange have similar plans. Speed depends heavily on the reception at your house.
- WiMAX / fixed wireless - local providers such as ConectaBalear or Fibwi serve rural areas with internet over a radio link. ConectaBalear quotes 10 to 70 Mbit/s download, with no minimum term.
- Starlink - SpaceX's satellite internet also works where neither a line nor good mobile reception reaches. Prices and plans change often, Starlink shows you the current offer once you enter your address on starlink.com.

Tip: ask the neighbors
The best source of information about internet options in the countryside is often the neighbors. They know which provider actually works and what experiences others in the area have had. Local expat community Facebook groups for Mallorca can be helpful too.
Conclusion
Internet on Mallorca is reliable, fast, and cheaper than in much of Europe in most areas. In Palma and the larger towns you can get fibre from around 20 EUR a month, just check the minimum term and the price after the promotional year. In the countryside, check which line reaches the address before you move in, and otherwise plan for a 5G router, fixed wireless or Starlink. If you have just arrived on the island, start with a prepaid SIM and sign the home internet contract once your address, NIE and bank account are sorted. That way you stay connected from day one.
