On top of that comes the question of whether you need a company at all or whether a privately registered household helper is enough. It issues invoices with VAT, carries liability insurance for damages, and provides a replacement if a worker calls in sick or leaves. Those three things are exactly what you're paying for in the hourly rate.

Company or a privately registered household helper?

What to check when choosing a company and signing a contract
You'll recognize a reputable company less by its website than by how it answers specific questions. These points should be settled before you hire anyone, and written into a contract for any regular arrangement:
- Proof of liability insurance (seguro de responsabilidad civil) with a coverage amount, so a scratched floor or a broken vase doesn't end up your problem
- An invoice with a tax ID (NIF) and VAT shown, no cash payment without a receipt
- A clear scope of work: which rooms, which tasks, how often, with or without cleaning supplies
- Travel costs and minimum booking length, especially outside Palma
- Key arrangement: who holds the key, is handover confirmed in writing, what happens if it's lost
- Notice period and how holidays and public holidays are handled
- A fixed point of contact and a backup plan if someone is out sick
Take care with the key handover. Get written confirmation of who receives the key, and never hand one over without a receipt. Turnover cleaning for holiday rentals
Turnover cleaning (limpieza de cambio) is the clean between two guest stays at a holiday rental. Besides cleaning, it usually includes changing linens, a final inspection, and reporting any damage, and it's billed as a flat fee per turnover rather than by the hour.
For hosts, it's the most critical cleaning task, because it has to happen in a tight window between check-out and check-in. Typical flat rates depend on the size and setup of the property; ask for a quote per property rather than per hour. Make sure the company has experience with rental properties and enough staff in July and August, when everyone needs a Saturday turnover at once.
