What is the Seg-Social App?
The Seg-Social App is the official app of the Spanish social security authority (Tesoreria General de la Seguridad Social, or TGSS for short) for all insured persons in Spain. Through it you access your personal data in the Spanish social system directly from your smartphone, download certificates and submit applications to the TGSS or INSS (Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social).
For many processes the app replaces a trip to the nearest TGSS branch on Mallorca. This is particularly convenient for newcomers, because appointments in Palma, Inca, Manacor or Felanitx are often booked up weeks in advance.
Behind the Seg-Social App stands the Spanish government (gov.es). It uses the same backend as the Sede Electronica de la Seguridad Social at sede.seg-social.gob.es. You can use the same functions either via browser or via the app.
At a glance
The Seg-Social App is the official digital gateway to the Spanish social security system. Vida Laboral, certificates, contribution checks, family benefits and the pension simulator are just a tap away. On Mallorca it saves you long trips to the TGSS.

When do you need the app?
The Seg-Social App is worthwhile for everyone who works in Spain, has a social security number here or receives benefits from the system. On Mallorca it is especially useful in the following situations:
- Retrieving the Informe de Vida Laboral: Your complete insurance and employment history as an official PDF, often requested by employers, landlords or for visa renewals.
- Checking contributions (Cotizaciones): Check monthly whether your employer has registered you correctly and what contributions have been paid.
- Downloading certificates: Certificado de estar al corriente, Certificado de afiliacion, Certificado de prestaciones - all important certificates available digitally and instantly.
- Registering as an autonomo: If you become self-employed on Mallorca, you can register in the RETA through the app.
- Applying for family benefits: Maternity pay, paternity pay, Ingreso Minimo Vital, Asignacion por hijo - directly from the app with a digital signature.
- Tracking sick leave (Baja por IT): Keep track of the status and payments of your Incapacidad Temporal without having to travel to the Centro de Salud.
- Pension simulator: Calculate your estimated pension entitlement taking into account German and Spanish contribution periods.
- Push notifications: You are notified immediately when a decision, a payment or a message from the TGSS is waiting for you.
Tip: keep your Vida Laboral ready for every rental contract
On Mallorca many landlords ask for the Informe de Vida Laboral as proof of creditworthiness. Anyone who can show it via the app in 30 seconds has a clear advantage when flat-hunting in Palma, Calvia or Inca.
Voraussetzungen for the Seg-Social App
To use the Seg-Social App on Mallorca effectively, you need a few basic things. The structured list is further down in the requirements box; here are the most important points first.
The app runs on iPhone (from iOS 13) and modern Android devices (from Android 7). You do not need a powerful computer or a Spanish SIM card - a German mobile number generally works without any problems. For Cl@ve PIN, however, a mobile number registered with the Seguridad Social is required, since the SMS PIN is sent there.
Central to everything is the social security number (NUSS), which you obtain once from the TGSS on Mallorca. Without this number you cannot log in.
For security-sensitive functions you also need at least one of these three authentication methods:
- Cl@ve PIN: One-time password by SMS, ideal for occasional users.
- Cl@ve Permanente: Fixed password, ideal for regular use.
- Certificado Digital: Digital certificate from the FNMT, ideal for autonomos and everyone who signs many applications digitally.
Step-by-step first login
Setting up the Seg-Social App usually takes less than 10 minutes, provided your Cl@ve or Certificado Digital is already activated.
Warning: never share your login credentials
With Cl@ve or the Certificado Digital you have legally binding access to your insurance and tax data. Never give your PIN or certificate password to third parties, not even to tax advisors or lawyers. Use official powers of attorney (Apoderamiento) instead.
Tips and common mistakes
Here are some practical tips from people who have made the move to Mallorca, to save you frustration.
Tip: activate Cl@ve PIN before you need it
Cl@ve PIN is faster to get than a Certificado Digital, because no in-person visit is needed (activation by post or appointment). Activate it shortly after arriving on Mallorca so you have it ready when an urgent situation comes up.
Mistake: confusing NIE and NUSS
NIE and NUSS are two different numbers. The NIE is your general foreigners' ID, the NUSS is your social security number. In the app you need both - they are not interchangeable.
Tip: save receipts as PDFs in the cloud
After retrieving the Vida Laboral, contribution certificates and registration documents, upload them straight to your cloud (e.g. iCloud or Google Drive). That way you have them to hand even if your smartphone is lost or the app needs to be reinstalled.
Mistake: mobile number not updated
If you change your phone number (e.g. switching from a German to a Spanish SIM), you also need to update the new number with the Seguridad Social. Otherwise Cl@ve PIN SMS messages go to the old number and you can no longer log in.
Install the Seg-Social App now
