How warm does Mallorca actually get in March? When is the sea genuinely swimmable? And which months bring real rain? This Mallorca climate table answers those questions with concrete numbers, without sugarcoating.
At a glance
Mallorca has a classic Mediterranean climate: dry, hot summers and mild, rainier winters. The swimming season runs from June to October, and the most pleasant months to be here are May, June and September. Below you will find every climate figure month by month.
The climate table at a glance
The figures come from long-term measurements by AEMET (Agencia Estatal de Meteorologia), the official Spanish weather agency. Temperatures are daily averages (minimum and maximum) for Palma de Mallorca.

A rain day is not a washout
A rain day on Mallorca usually means a short afternoon shower, not 12 hours of drizzle. Even in October with its 8 rain days, the sun is out on most of them.
Month by month: what to expect
January and February are the coldest months. Nights can drop to 6 or 7 °C, while daytime highs reach 14 to 16 °C. At 14 to 15 °C the sea is too cold for swimming, but spring arrives early: the first almond trees blossom by the end of January. Rain comes in short bursts, rarely for days on end.
March and April bring spring weather with rising temperatures and more sunshine. Afternoons at 18 to 21 °C are ideal for day trips, hiking and cycling. The sea warms slowly to 15 to 16 °C, so swimming is possible but bracing. April has the most rain days of the spring at 8, though the showers are brief.
May and June are what many residents consider the best time of year on Mallorca. Temperatures between 24 and 28 °C, almost no rain, and the sea at 18 to 22 °C. Tourism is still manageable, restaurants have free tables and the roads are not jammed.
July and August are peak season with highs of up to 31 °C. The sea is a comfortable 26 to 27 °C and rain is rare. Anyone living here year-round knows the drill: supermarkets are quietest early in the morning, and main roads turn into a queue in the afternoon. More on that in our peak season guide for residents.
September is the best compromise. The sea is still warm at 25 °C, temperatures are pleasant at 20 to 28 °C, and the crowds thin out noticeably. September on Mallorca has a rhythm of its own.
October and November bring proper autumn. Temperatures fall to 18 to 23 °C, the sea cools down and some restaurants close. If you still like being outdoors, these months give you the emptiest beaches of the year. There is something to do all year round, from hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana to cycling along the coast.
December is the darkest month with only 4 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures sit between 9 and 15 °C and the sea is still at 17 °C. Not swimming weather, but fine for anyone who wants to be outside and moving.
Sea temperatures: when is swimming really on?
Most northern Europeans find water comfortable from about 20 °C. On Mallorca that means a swimming season from June to October, peaking in August at 27 °C. If you handle cold well, you will be in the water by May. AEMET publishes regular sea temperature reports for Spanish waters.
October is underrated
October gets overlooked: the sea is still at 22 °C, warmer than it was in June. On calm days, swimming right through to the end of October is realistic.
Mallorca's climate in short
The Mediterranean climate of Mallorca means dry, hot summers, mild winters with occasional rain and very little frost. The island gets roughly 400 to 500 millimetres of rainfall a year, well below what most of northern Europe sees, and averages more than 300 sunny days.
That distinction matters for newcomers: "rain" on Mallorca rarely means continuous downpour. It usually means an intense, short shower, especially in October and November.
Common question: which month is nicest on Mallorca? For most residents that is May and September, with comfortable temperatures between 20 and 28 °C, fewer tourists, and either no summer heat yet or the heat already gone. If you want to hike, March to May and October are your best windows.
Common question: does it snow on Mallorca? Rarely, and only at higher elevations in the Serra de Tramuntana. In Palma and along the coast it practically never snows. Frost happens, but it is unusual.
Conclusion
The climate table shows what residents and planners need to know: Mallorca has mild winters, not brutal ones. Summers are hot, but shorter than many people expect. The best months for outdoor life and an easy daily routine are May, June and September. The sea is swimmable from June to October, at its warmest in August.
For everything you need to sort out before or after the move, there is the checklist for newcomers. If you want to explore what the island offers across the seasons, the leisure and sport topic is a good starting point.
