Why Renting on Mallorca Is Often the Better Choice

Anyone living on Mallorca knows: space in the flat or finca storage room is limited, but the need for seating for 30 guests or a plate compactor only comes around a few times a year. Renting is therefore very common on the island, and the range of options is considerably better than many newcomers expect. From the classic beer garden set for a birthday party to a mini excavator for a pool extension, almost everything can be hired by the day.

The second reason: weather. Wood furniture, tools and electrical appliances deteriorate faster in the salty air and under the strong sun than on the mainland. Renting saves you the storage, the maintenance and the loss in value.

Hiring Beer Garden Sets

A beer garden set (Spanish: juego de mesa y bancos plegables, often simply called mesa cervecera) is the workhorse of any garden party. On Mallorca you can get the classic sets with a wooden top and folding frame from many event hire companies in Palma, Inca, Manacor and along the coast.

Typical prices (as of 2026):

• Standard set (table 220 cm + 2 benches): 12 to 18 euros per day
• Set for 8 people with backrest and padding: 22 to 35 euros per day
• High tables (Mesa alta): 8 to 15 euros per day
• Weekend flat rate (Fri-Mon): usually day rate times 1.5 instead of times 3

What to clarify when booking:

• Delivery and collection or self-pickup with your own trailer
• Assembly by the hire company or yourself
• Condition of the surfaces (sets available with wood, plastic or padded tops)
• Weather protection: who covers a bench damaged by rain?
• Deposit and payment method (cash, card, bank transfer)

For larger parties a few beer garden sets are often not enough. Common additions include:

For professional equipment (large excavators, aerial work platforms, scaffolding) there are specialist hire companies (alquiler de maquinaria), for example in the Son Castello industrial estate in Palma or in Inca. Here delivery to the building site is standard, often including a briefing.

Trailers, Vans and Removal Vehicles

If you need to transport a beer garden set, a wardrobe or garden soil, a boot is often not enough. Available options include:

• Unbraked car trailer (750 kg): 20 to 35 euros per day, at petrol stations and DIY stores
• Braked car trailer (1,300 to 1,500 kg): 40 to 65 euros per day

Useful to know: Airport car hire providers generally do not rent vans for collection outside the airport. Bouncy Castles, Sound Equipment and Other Event Tech

For children's birthdays and family parties, also popular:

Power supply is often more of a challenge at fincas than the equipment itself. For weddings and larger events in remote locations some providers also hire out generators for 60 to 150 euros per day.

Deposit, Delivery and Contracts

To avoid unpleasant surprises when hiring, here are a few practical points:

Deposit (Fianza): Typical deposits are 50 to 300 euros for event furniture and the replacement value for tools. Most providers accept a credit card pre-authorisation; some insist on a cash deposit. Make sure the refund is confirmed in writing.

Delivery: In the greater Palma area flat rates are 30 to 60 euros; in the island interior and the Tramuntana more like 80 to 150 euros. Some hire companies offer free delivery above a minimum order value.

Contract and insurance: Always ask for a hire contract or at least an invoice. For expensive equipment and bouncy castles, event liability insurance makes sense. Some contents insurance policies cover hired items; if in doubt, check with your insurer in advance.

Return: Allow yourself a buffer. Dirty furniture is usually subject to an additional cleaning fee (10 to 50 euros). For tools: return them refuelled and clean, otherwise deductions apply.

Anyone living on Mallorca who regularly throws parties, does building work or moves house is best served by a combination of a basic stock of their own items and targeted hiring. For everything needed only a few days a year, renting is almost always cheaper than buying - and you save yourself the storage space.
