Invoicing Software for Autónomos: Verifactu Comparison 2026

Starting July 1, 2027, every invoicing program an autonomo on Mallorca uses has to meet the Verifactu requirements. If you are looking for a new invoicing program for autonomos now, or want to switch from an existing one, you can skip a later migration by choosing a program that already meets the requirements today. This post compares the three most common Spanish providers, Holded, Quipu and Billin, the free app from the tax authority AEAT, and explains why accounting software from your home country is usually not enough on its own for invoicing in Spain.
At a glance
Holded, Quipu and Billin all state on their own websites that their software meets the Verifactu requirements, at prices between roughly 6.60 and 59 EUR a month. AEAT also provides a free application, which does not allow data export or simplified invoices. Popular accounting programs built for other countries are designed around their home country's own bookkeeping rules and do not claim Verifactu compliance.
What Verifactu-ready software has to do
Verifactu-ready invoicing software is a program that cryptographically chains every invoice to the previous one, generates a QR code, and can transmit the data to the tax authority AEAT on request. The legal basis is Real Decreto 1007/2023; the more recent Real Decreto-ley 15/2025 pushed the deadlines back to January 1, 2027 for corporations and July 1, 2027 for autonomos. Anyone who keeps using non-compliant software after that risks a fine of up to 50,000 EUR per financial year, according to the post on Verifactu. That post covers the obligation itself in detail; here the focus is only on which program satisfies it.
Verifactu is also not the same as the separate obligation to issue electronic B2B invoices, covered in the post on the e-invoicing mandate. Verifactu-ready software helps with both, since most providers are building both formats in parallel, but the two obligations remain separate.
Holded, Quipu and Billin compared
All three providers state on their own websites that their software meets the Verifactu requirements and generates the required QR code automatically.
| Posten | Kosten | Dauer |
|---|---|---|
| Holded, entry plan | from 7.50 EUR | monthly, annual plan |
| Quipu Starter | from 14 EUR | monthly, annual plan |
| Quipu Premium | 59 EUR | monthly |
| Billin Básico | from 6.60 EUR | monthly, annual plan |
| Billin Ilimitado | 20 EUR | monthly |
The three programs differ less on price than on scope. Billin stays close to plain invoicing and is affordable even in its Básico tier. Quipu's Solution and Premium tiers also cover ongoing bookkeeping, including bank reconciliation and nine different AEAT forms, but cost noticeably more. Holded positions itself as an all-in-one package with inventory management, projects and a simple CRM on top, which for an autonomo with no stock to manage is often more than they need.
Before you pick one of the three, it is worth checking a few things:
- Whether the provider explicitly mentions Verifactu compliance or AEAT approval, not just a general claim of being "legally compliant"
- Whether bank integration for automatic reconciliation is included in the base price or only in a pricier tier
- Whether you can export invoices and receipts as Excel or PDF for your gestoria
- Whether the interface is available in a language you are comfortable with. This changes from time to time, so it is worth asking the provider directly before signing up
The free invoicing app from AEAT
The tax authority AEAT provides its own free application called VERI*FACTU. According to its own description it is aimed at professionals, self-employed people and businesses with low invoicing volume who do not have their own software. There is no cap on the number of invoices, whether annually, monthly or weekly.
The zero-euro price comes with two catches. The app only creates invoices with a single recipient; simplified invoices or tickets are not supported, nor are certain special IVA rules such as for second-hand goods or travel agencies. And once an invoice is recorded in the app, you cannot export it if you want to switch to a different program later.
Watch out: no data portability
If you start with the AEAT app and later want to switch to Holded, Quipu or Billin, your existing invoices do not come with you automatically. For an autonomo with few, similarly structured invoices the app is often enough long-term, but if your business is growing, it is better to plan the switch early.
What about accounting software from your home country?
Many newcomers naturally wonder whether they can just keep using the invoicing software they already know from back home. Popular accounting programs in other countries are usually built around their own national bookkeeping standards, and they can genuinely help with billing clients abroad. Invoicing for a business registered in Spain, however, is a different matter from writing invoices to foreign clients while based abroad.
The accounting software most people bring with them from home does not advertise Verifactu compliance on its own website, and it does not show up on the usual Spanish comparison lists of Verifactu software either. That is not surprising: Verifactu requires the cryptographic chaining of every invoice record to the previous one and a QR code in the Spanish format, features that software built around a different country's rules does not come with automatically. If you are registered as an autonomo in Spain, you will almost certainly need a Spanish program, or at least one that is Spanish-certified, even if your bookkeeping for the home-country side of things keeps running in your old software.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy a new invoicing program right away? No. The obligation only applies to autonomos from July 1, 2027. Until then you can keep using your current program and take your time comparing which Verifactu-ready option fits your gestoria and your budget.
Is the free AEAT app enough for an autonomo? For simple, consistently structured invoices with a single recipient, often yes. Once you need simplified invoices, special IVA rules, or plan to switch to a different program later, the app reaches its limits.
Can I keep using my home country's accounting software for my Spanish invoices? Most programs built for other countries are designed around their own national bookkeeping rules and do not claim Verifactu compliance. For a business registered in Spain you will need a Spanish or Spanish-certified program as well.

Bottom line
For most autonomos on Mallorca, a Spanish program with an explicit Verifactu statement is worth it: Billin for plain invoicing from 6.60 EUR a month, Quipu or Holded if you also want bookkeeping and bank integration. The free AEAT app works for very simple cases, as long as you are aware that a later switch will not carry your old invoices with it. Accounting software from your home country does not replace the Spanish program, but it can keep running in parallel for the home-country side of your books. The post on Verifactu explains the obligation itself and its deadlines in detail, and if you would rather hand off the bookkeeping entirely, the comparison of online gestorias is an alternative worth a look.
